Seh shares her love for the forest with her father,David.
Both father and daughter consider the land as a legacy that must be passed on from generation to generation.
They are proud to be the owners of such a magnificent expanse of land and are willing to defend their legacy from people like Mr. Andersen.
What legacy inherited from your ancestors do you treasure the same way ?

ReplyDeleteI have inherited the best thing of all. I have inherited an 8 yard farm in Aibonito. This farm belongs to my grandfather and my father. I hope one day everyone of my children can inherit them too, but by now Im going to plant as many things as possible!!!
ANdrea,
ReplyDeleteYour comment reminds of Cassie from "Song of the Trees". In the story, she feels the same way you about the farm that one day she hopes to
inherit from her father and grandmother. She wants to pass on their legacy of the farm to future generations.
Maria Sofia,
ReplyDeleteFeeling proud of our heritage is very important. Our culture and our language define us as a member of our country. We should preserve this legacy for our descendants. We should feel proud of our legacy, regardless of what it is,whether if it's a material thing or values taught to us by our parents and grandparents.
I haven't inherited anything from my ancestors or family, but I would like to save something for my kids to give to their kids to give to their kids and etc. Such as clothes, jewerly or something else that has value to me and my family.

ReplyDeleteThe legacy that my family and I inherited from my fathers side of the familly ís a beach house in Cerro Gordo, a beach in Vega Alta. My grandfather built that house with lots of effort and sacrifice, so that his sons could go there during the summer when they where kids to have a great time. He also had parties for his clients, family, friends and people from their church. That was a way for him to thak them by inviting them to his beach house. Both of my grandparents passed away. Everytime I go there, I have a great time spending quality time with my family. When I go there I remember them, and with pride and honor I stare at that beautiful house and think of how much they loved me.

ReplyDeleteI have yet to inherit anything but what would be great to inherit is my great-grandfather's huge piece of land behind his house. He built his house and my grandfather's house and a barn on it so that's why it's behind his house. It is a huge piece of land (I don't know how long it is) but I think it's so fun to run in and where it ends it has a little lake and it is awesome. My great-grandfather is using it as a farm for now until we find something to do on it (we're thinking like a pool or tennis court or maybe getting a horse and riding it). It's just great and my brother and I love to look at the mama and baby lambs while we think if it's a good idea to change the way it is.

ReplyDeleteI inherit some rings from my grandmother that her mother wore. These rings are a great memory of my ancestors.
I'm really enjoying reading all these wonderful things that every one of you have posted. Nonetheless, I like Pati Leal's comment that she wants to inherit her mom's recipes.
ReplyDeletePati: what a great and sensible idea. many young women today want to study a career, get a great job and be successful . Many don't realize though, that along with having a career , many will be mothers and wives. Cooking is a life skill that will guarantee success in all areas of one's life, also. Developing a healthy love for food and sharing it with others will help you become a good cook, good enough to feed your own family and make sure that they are healthy and well fed.
You can start preparing simple recipes now as a teenager.Later, learning this skill will help you make you feel independent and raise your self-esteem so that eventually you become the great cook you want to be.
I have inherit some jewlery, story, and that's it i guess. Whell yhea.

ReplyDeleteI’ve inherited my grandfather’s house and my great grandmas cooking recipes. She was the cook of the family and I’ve been told that she was very sweet and made REALLY good food!
I would like to inherit something beacause i haven't inherited anything. If i don't inherit anything when time passes i would like to get something very special so i could pass it to my kids and my kids pass it on to their kids. And it would be something really good for the future because the people from the future could learn more about the past (present now))and about their ancesters.

My family has a legacy in public service. On my fathers side my grandfather ran for mayor Guaynabo in the 1980. Some day so will I.
ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteYour grandmother's wedding veil must be a dream come true. Treasure it and maybe many years from now, your own granddaughter may walk down the aisle wearing it too.
Maria Carolina,
ReplyDeleteMomaday, the writer from our grammar exercise also belonged to the Osage. Can you bring some information about this important Native American tribe to the classroom? I'm sure your classmates would like to learn about their history.
Sofia,
ReplyDeleteYou must be very proud of your father and your ancestors. Sometimes an important contribution made by our relatives inspire us greatly to do something of equal importance, also.
We can accomplish everything that we want for ourselves to do. Set your goals high and work hard to get there. The future is yours!
Patricia,
ReplyDeleteA gift of jewelry handed down from generation is almost always more cherished not only for its monetary value but also for sentimental reasons.
Ask your relatives to describe the lives of the previous owners of the land and the owners of the gold bracelet. Those details will help you appreciate even more your inheritance.
For now I haven't inherited anything from my ancestors... Though one day I would love to. I think that giving things from the past is really cool because you are sharing with your family.

Many years later I went back to those books but I couldn't find the stories she had told us.
